The largest cable-supported domed stadium in the world, the Georgia Dome is nestled in downtown Atlanta and has played host to several popular sports events. The Super Bowl XXVIII and XXXIV, Men and Womens' NCAA Final Four tournament, and Olympic gymnastics and basketball events were all held here. The dome has also been home to several non-sporting events such as trade shows, concerts and religious events. Each year, the Georgia Dome also hosts the Southeastern Conference Football Championship Game and the chick-Fil-a Bowl.This magnificent structure sprawls 8.9 acres and is made of 8,300 tons of steel. It was built in 1992 at a cost of $214 million, and was one of the largest state-funded construction projects in Georgia's history. Home to eight super suites, 164 executive suites and with seating for more than 70,000, the dome is an attraction like no other.Today, the Georgia Dome is home to the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. A $30-million renovation in 2006 updated the venue's seating areas, updated the exterior color scheme to match the Falcons and renovated the entrance gates, among many other projects.
