The Gulfport center point is about the area of Downtown Gulfport.
The summer is hot and humid in Gulfport, Mississippi. If you've never experienced the humidity in this part of the United States, get ready. Fortunately, that weather is perfect to enjoy the beach. You will end up paying a little more for hotels during the summer because of the beach, but it will be worth it to enjoy the water.
The spring is also traditionally pretty hot. If you're planning a trip, most of the spring is the perfect time to come. Just watch out for spring break. College students in the area will come to this area causing hotel prices to go up. It's generally a good idea to try and schedule your vacation around the spring break crowds.
Early fall is pretty muggy still, but hotel prices are lower as the crowds disperse. It's still hot enough to enjoy the beach and the water, but you will get some reprieve from the humidity. It's not warm enough to go to the beach during the winter. Hotel prices are at the most affordable during the winter, and the temperature is pleasant, but not warm. The winter is the best time to experience the casinos and visit the museums and restaurants since you won't see as many crowds and the prices for hotels are reasonable.

If you're in Gulfport during the warmer weather, the first thing on your list is to hit the beach. Although Mississippi doesn't seem like a beach destination, it has beautiful white, sandy beaches. The Gulf of Mexico has some of the clearest blue waters in the United States and Gulfport is no exception. Get a hotel right on the water so you can wake up to that beautiful view every morning.
For those traveling with the family, there are plenty of family-friendly things to do. Check out the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, which is Mississippi's first children's museum. The kids may also enjoy a trip to the Stennis Space Center. This official NASA space center has a visitors center called the INFINITY Space Center. For something a little more high-energy, visit the Gulf Islands Water Park. The water park has adrenaline-rushing water slides or a relaxing lazy pool to enjoy.
You could also head to West Ship Island by boat. Located 11 miles away from Gulfport, this barrier island is home to Fort Massachusetts. Enjoy seeing Bottle-nose Dolphins on the boat ride over to the island, soak some sun and some history, and have a beautiful day on the water. You could also rent jet skis, kayaks, or paddleboards to get some exercise and experience the water differently.
For the older crowds, check out the many casinos in Gulfport. Try your hand at Roulette or play some high-stakes poker. If you're not a big gambler, you could have a little fun at the penny slots instead. Book a hotel at one of the many hotel/casinos in Gulfport or take a shuttle from your hotel to a casino to enjoy.
Gulfport is also a great place to go for shopping, eating, and drinking. Visit the outlets to get a good deal or stock up clothes for the kids. Try some of the local restaurants to enjoy fresh seafood, or check out Chandeleur Brewing Company for local craft beer. Located in a historic building, visitors can tour the facility and see how the brewery makes their delicious local beer.
Gulfport is a surprising city with plenty to do for the whole family. With plenty of hotel options at all different price points, it won't be hard to book the perfect vacation or visit.

White Cap Restaurant is really good! Have some of the best southern style seafood I have ever tasted. A must when visiting Gulfport.
Since Katrina, the city has rebuilt and cleaned up well. Many buildings are new or were repaired and looked in good condition. The gulf in Mississippi has always looked muddy because of the MS River, however we noticed it seems much more clean and even had a blue tint. It just looked a whole lot better and the people were a whole lot nicer. It would seem from a tragedy sprang a new town worth taking another look at.
