"Hazel Dell invites visitors with its active community, scenic paths at Salmon Creek Greenway, enjoyable times at Vancouver Mall, and ample local dining options."By James Lawrence, Travel Writer
Hazel Dell, located just north of Vancouver, Washington, is a place rich in history and a growing suburban presence. First settled by pioneers Reese and Sarah J. Anderson in the 19th century, Sarah named the area Hazel Dell after a grove of filbert trees on their land near what is now 78th Street and Highway 99. Though other names like "Bear Gulch" and "Basilville" were considered, Hazel Dell remained, with Basil Dhanens, a notable community figure, declining the latter. Over the years, Hazel Dell evolved into a desirable residential area, with developments like Lake Shore, Felida, and Salmon Creek following. By the end of the 20th century, new housing shifted east of Vancouver along Interstate 205. Until the 1970s, the area had a rural character with dairy farms along Interstate 5 and Highway 99. By the end of that decade, dairy production had ceased, transitioning Hazel Dell into a more suburban and commercial hub, home to several shopping centers.
Strategically located along Interstate 5, Hazel Dell is accessible from exits 4 and 5. Nearby Vancouver Lake and Minnehaha offer recreational opportunities. Known for its rich local culture, the annual Parade of Bands, featuring marching bands and floats along Highway 99, has been a beloved tradition since 1964. Hazel Dell boasts numerous parks and recreational spaces. The Kate and Clarence LaLonde Neighborhood Park, constructed in 2010, and other spots like Hazel Dell Community Park and Jorgenson Woods Neighborhood Park, developed in 2007, provide playgrounds, sports fields, and picnic areas. These locations enhance the quality of life for residents.
The Hazel Dell area is home to a wide range of accommodations catering to all travelers. Whether you're searching for a luxurious suite, a cozy inn, a budget-friendly motel, or a well-appointed hotel, Hazel Dell boasts plenty of lodging options to meet your needs. With their warm hospitality and comfortable amenities, these accommodations ensure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. The unique blend of tranquility and excitement sets Hazel Dell apart from other destinations, making it an ideal getaway for travelers of all kinds. More from this guide...
