Over the years, Hazel Dell evolved into a desirable residential area, with developments like Lake Shore, Felida, and Salmon Creek following. By the end of the 20th century, new housing shifted east of Vancouver along Interstate 205. Until the 1970s, the area had a rural character with dairy farms along Interstate 5 and Highway 99. By the end of that decade, dairy production had ceased, transitioning Hazel Dell into a more suburban and commercial hub, home to several shopping centers. Strategically located along Interstate 5, Hazel Dell is accessible from exits 4 and 5. Nearby Vancouver Lake and Minnehaha offer recreational opportunities. Known for its rich local culture, the annual Parade of Bands, featuring marching bands and floats along Highway 99, has been a beloved tradition since 1964.
