The Rochester Hills center point is around 1 mile southwest of Downtown Rochester and 2 miles east of Meadow Brook Hall and Gardens.
If you don't mind crowds, the best time to visit Rochester Hills is during summer. From June through September, the temperature stays in the 70s and 80s, allowing you to do some outdoor activities or explore the city on foot. The weather can get oppressively hot and humid in late August, however, so make sure to pack some lighter clothes and find a hotel with a pool to offset the heat. Demand for hotels can go up during this time of the year, so make sure to book a room early to get your top choice.
If the thought of crowds makes you cringe, head to Rochester Hills during the fall or spring. Typical temperatures during these times range from 40 to 60 degrees, necessitating a light jacket, but rarely a heavy coat. Many activities and festivals take place in Rochester Hills and nearby Detroit during this time, so early bookings are essential.
Winter is the harshest time of year in Rochester Hills, with temperatures hovering around 20 degrees for most of the season and plenty of snow, ice, and wind. Most of the time, this makes it difficult to get around town, and care should always be taken to stay safe whether as a pedestrian or a driver. The world-famous Detroit Auto Show thaws the area, so it's safe to travel for about two weeks in January, but the rest of the season, you won't be that lucky. Hotel demand goes way down during most of the season, so you might be able to snag a last-second deal if you're a true bargain hunter.
Don't spend extra money needlessly when you book a room in Rochester Hills. Instead, take a look at hotel discounts throughout the area. The Baymont Inn & Suites is just one of those places, offering discounts for AAA members, seniors, government and military personnel, and long-term stays. Not only will you put some cash in your pocket, but you'll also have access to free wireless internet, cable television, a work desk, free newspapers, and daily housekeeping to keep your room spic and span.
Before you head out for the day to destinations like Oakland University, the Palace of Auburn Hills, or the Meadow Brook Amphitheater, fill up with the complimentary hot/cold buffet that's served each morning from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. At the end of the day, splash around in the outdoor pool or grab a workout in their fitness center.
If you're searching for some nice amenities without having to break the bank, check out a few of Rochester Hills' midrange value options. The Quality Inn is just one of those choices, offering sumptuous rooms in either a king, queen, or two queen bed configuration. With a stay here, you'll be within close proximity to attractions such as the Walter P. Chrysler Museum, the Palace of Auburn Hills, and the Pontiac Amtrak Station. Stay connected with friends, family, and work with free wireless internet, or watch the big game from the comfort of your room on the cable television.
When the weather's nice, go for a dip in the seasonal outdoor pool or hit the gym, and don't forget about the free continental breakfast served every day from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Unlike some of its neighboring cities, Rochester Hills is a far newer city, so it doesn't have the Main Street feel that you'd find elsewhere. However, it is divided into four separate areas, known as hubs. This includes the Northeast, Hampton Plaza, the Village, and Hampton Village Centre. In the Northeast hub, you'll find tons of dining and retail options, including a Bar Louie location which was one of the first businesses to call this hub home.
If you're looking to get some shopping done, head over to the Hampton Village Center. With over 450,000 square feet of retail space spearheaded by Target and Best Buy, it's a shopaholics dream come true. The Hampton Plaza area of town is home to nine stores, thanks to renovations and renewal programs. Just a few years ago, this area was almost entirely vacant, but with Fresh Thyme and Dunham's Sports moving in, it revamped the entire development.
The Village is the closest thing that Rochester Hills has to a Main Street with more than 50 chain and locally owned stores. What makes it different from the rest is that it holds many events for citizens, such as a summer concert series, outdoor movies for both kids and adults during the summer, and holiday lighting shoes during the winter.
Throughout the year, Meadow Brook Hall holds tours and other events for visitors. Constructed between 1926 and 1929, this building was the home of Matilda Dodge, the widow of John Dodge, who formed the Dodge company. Built at a cost of $4 million, this home is one of the finest examples of Tudor-revival architecture in the United States, and currently is on the National Register of Historic Places.
If you're interested in the Dodge family or architecture in general, take a guided tour. During this tour, you'll learn about how the wealthiest Americans lived on their 88,000-acre estate, or you can opt for one of their other specialty tours which explore the private gardens and lesser-visited buildings. During winter, the mansion also hosts a holiday walk that showcases the home's Christmas lighting and decor.
Regardless of your tastes or interests, Rochester Hills has plenty of stuff to do for entertainment. Whether you want to stay in a luxurious hotel for a five-star getaway or a midrange option that's perfect for families, you can get your booking done right here on HotelPlanner.
