The land where Midwest City sits today was the perfect location to build a new airfield center before the start of the war. W.P. Bill Atkinson learned that the United States Army was looking to build this airfield and he knew that the Midway area was ideal. Mr. Atkinson purchased thousands of acres of undeveloped land in the early 1940s and began to build houses, schools, parks, medical centers, and shopping centers so that when the military personnel moved to Midwest City, most of the infrastructure would be available for them to begin their lives.
After the war, the airfield closed and today, Midwest City serves as the economic trade center for the eastern portion of Oklahoma. Tourists come to visit the museums, attend festive events, or just to spend the weekend away from the metropolis of Oklahoma City.
No matter your reason for visiting Midwest City, choosing the right hotel for you and your family will make your stay more enjoyable.
What is the Best Time of Year to Visit Midwest City, OK?
Summers are generally hot and muggy and winters can be down-right cold. However, if you don't mind bundling up when the days are chilly, hiking along the trails around Soldier Creek, or visiting the attractions with fewer crowds, makes finding an affordable room a breeze during the winter. Keep in mind, if you are attending the Holiday Lights Spectacular held from late-November to late-December, book your rooms early as people flock to the town to experience the gorgeous light show.
If you want to play golf in the summer, be sure to book an early tee time before the days get too warm. As most summer vacationers are staying in cooler climates, you can find a room for a very reasonable rate.
Springtime brings rain, especially May which is the wettest month of the year, but the weather is nice, and on a clear day it is the perfect time to play golf, go sightseeing, or enjoy all that Midwest City has to offer.
Mark your calendar for Family Fridays in the Park as well as other fun family events offered throughout the summer. Early summer is high season, so book your rooms well in advance as they fill up quickly and rates go up.
Fall weather is wonderful as the heat and humidity begin to drop and kids have gone back to school, so there are more available rooms with lower rates. The golf courses are less crowded so you can enjoy playing throughout the day.
