From quiet parks to vibrant downtown, Lawrence has something for everyone.
Start your day with a delicious breakfast at one of the local cafes. Central Avenue has a big count of kosher restaurants as Lawrence is home to a vast community of Modern Orthodox Jewish.
Then head over to the Rock Hall Museum - one of the central historical attractions of the area. It was built in 1767 and now represents one of the finest examples of pre-Revolutionary War Georgian Style homes. The home belonged to two of the wealthiest families in the area - Martins and Hewletts. In 1948 the Hewletts handed it over to the Town of Hempstead, and to this day, the house is operated and maintained by the town. In 1953, after several years of restoration, it opened to the public as a museum. Today the Rock Hall offers a variety of exhibits from artifacts to archives from the 18th and 19th centuries. It also provides guided tours and educational programs for students.
In the afternoon, head to one of many parks for a bit of relaxation. Lawrence is a great place to go for a walk, have a picnic or do some hiking and biking. For instance, visit Cedarhurst Park. It is a lovely open space with a gazebo and a fountain. The village often uses the gazebo for various events and is an excellent place to get to know the community a little better. The park provides a nice secluded area to rest, get some fresh air, or play some active games and blast with kids on one of the playground jungles.
You can also take advantage of the village's proximity to the ocean. Rent a yacht or a boat and sail the Bannister Bay to the Raynolds Channel, and through the East Rockaway Inlet, you'll be able to enter the Ocean waters; the sail is about two miles. The marina also offers excellent amenities like golf and tennis courses, restaurants and bars, beaches nearby, and all the maintenance and fuel facilities needed for your watercraft.
