The Kennewick center point is approximately the area of Downtown Kennewick and the area of East Benton County Hist Museum.
Sunny Kennewick enjoys an average of 300 days of sunshine each year. It's actually a semi-arid climate, which means the city can get very hot and dry in the summer, climbing into the upper 80s, while winters typically range in the mid-40s. If you plan to take advantage of the area's water sports, like fishing or waterskiing, summer is your best time to visit. The winters are still nice for a hike or bike ride; you'll just want to be more prepared for the elements. Light rain on winter afternoons is not uncommon, and it's a good idea to dress with the wind chill in mind.
The city also hosts several regional athletic events per year, including an international Ironman competition and several regional hockey league events. Check the city events calendar to make sure your trip doesn't coincide so you can plan an alternative time to visit (and save more on your hotel). Unless, of course, you plan to attend or participate in the sporting fun, in which case you should book well in advance to lock in your accommodations.
You won't find many traditional group discounts at Kennewick area hotels, like AARP or military discounts, but you can still find some if you look closely. AAA members will save big at the Super 8 Kennewick. At less than $60 per night, your stay even includes free breakfast. The hotel is centrally located near the Convention Center, Toyota Center, Columbia Center mall, and Badger Mountain Vineyard.
All of the basics are covered at the Super 8, including air-conditioning, wireless internet, and cable programming. You'll also find many conveniences within your own room, like coffee and tea makers and ironing boards. Families will appreciate the convenience of complimentary infant beds, available upon request. Just be aware that roll-away beds require a $10 surcharge. Be sure to take the family out for a dip in the outdoor pool and spa tub during your stay.
From roadside to motels to 2- and 3-star properties, even if you don't qualify for the AAA rate or other group discounts, the Kennewick area is flush with affordable hotels that everyone can enjoy. Book well in advance to lock in even lower, online-only discounted rates.
It's hard to beat the price and value offered by Clover Island Inn. It's located right on Clover Island, which is possibly the number one attraction in the area. Everyone is welcome here, including your pet! It's located close to Cable Bridge, Toyota Center, and Three Rivers Convention Center, so you can catch a concert or a hockey game during your stay if you'd like.
The hotel's air-conditioned rooms offer guests the convenience of in-room refrigerators and microwaves, should you like to fix a few picnic meals or snacks for your boat rides and trail excursions. The Inn also spoils its guests with a free hot bar breakfast daily.
For a night in, turn on the flat-screen television and take advantage of the cable programming, or hop online using the complimentary wireless internet access. Grab a relaxing (and convenient) cocktail at the bar and lounge, and take advantage of the seasonal outdoor pool and spa in warmer months. The sauna is a welcome escape from chill winter winds in the cooler months, as well. The Inn's 24-hour front desk staff makes everything effortless, from dry cleaning and laundry services to a complimentary airport shuttle ride.
Kennewick is home to the first lighthouse built in the United States since the 1960s. Not merely a decorative object, the lighthouse is fully functional and U.S. Coast Guard certified, and it emits a beacon of light every four seconds.
Clover Island Lighthouse was built as part of a complete waterfront park revitalization and pedestrian bridge project that has transformed Clover Island into a destination for locals and tourists alike. This small river island draws crowds to its pathways to stroll, play, and enjoy the sun. It's a great spot to do some fishing, take a bike ride, or have a picnic. After a fun and sunny afternoon on the island, escape to one of several restaurants and lounges nearby for replenishment, including Ice Harbor at the Marina and Cedars Restaurant & Lounge.
Visitors can enjoy a view of the Columbia River from its banks or embark on a sailboat ride from the no-fee public boat launch at Clover Island Marina. If you're in the mood to channel Lewis and Clark and do a little exploring, the Yakima and Snake Rivers are only a few minutes boat's ride away.
If you're a hiker, you can't miss the Sacagawea Heritage Trail. The unique 23-mile trail will take you on both sides of the Columbia River, traversing over two bridges and into both Pasco and neighboring Kennewick, so you can appreciate the beautiful landscape from every angle.
Beautiful and inviting Kennewick, Washington, invites visitors to immerse themselves in vibrant small-town life, the spirit of the West, and the natural world. Just as the region once called out to Lewis and Clark, this fascinating region is just waiting to be explored.
