The village of Floral Park was originally a farming community. The rich soil, easy access to New York City, and proximity to Belmont Park Racetrack made this area perfect for agricultural pursuits. The community stayed farm-oriented until just after World War II, when many farmers sold their land and the single-family homes you see today were built to welcome veterans home from the war.
Today, this diverse area still holds its 1950s charm. Several bus routes are available to take you right into the city, and there's a stop on the Long Island Rail Road in the center of the village. The hotels in the area are as diverse as the citizenship, with everything from quaint motor lodges to high-rise luxury options available.
What is the best time to visit Floral Park, NY?
Floral Park has activities all year long, but none is more famous than the Belmont Stakes. This race is the third jewel in thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown and the oldest of the three Triple Crown races. Every June, millions of horse-racing fans descend on the area to watch the year's top 3-year-old horses cover the track faster than any four-legged animal should be able to do. This means if you're planning on visiting Floral Park in mid-June for any reason, reservations need to made years in advance, and you will pay premium prices for any hotel in the area.
On the other hand, if you're visiting in January through March, hotel prices swing to their lowest points of the year, although hotel rates spike briefly during the Valentine's Day holiday. While this time of year may not offer the best options for outdoor fun, it is a great time to visit one of the many museums in the area or take in a play. With New York City so easily accessible, you could even spend your days shopping on Fifth Avenue and then enjoy a quiet evening at a hotel in Floral Park.
