Decatur remains rooted in its agricultural and ranching past. Farmers, ranchers, oil workers, and other rural Texans still come to town for a night out and to shop for supplies. Downtown Decatur has everything you could want to taste, see, buy, or try. Get your hair and nails done at one of several salons and pamper yourself at the Skin Care Spa. Then, you'll be ready to shop and dine the day away.
Start at Downtown Donuts or Sweetwater Baking Company for a breakfast treat and coffee, then mosey on over to one of the consignment shops and the women's, children's, and men's fashion boutiques. You can buy a 10-gallon Texas-style hat at Biggar Hat Store, check out Embellish'd Boutique's cowgirl chic apparel, and pop into Memory Lane Mercantile to shop for handmade soaps and sundries. Main Street Antique Mall and Nooks N' Crannies both boast excellent antiques and collectibles.
Outfitted with your new Texan gear from head to toe, you'll be ready to check out Rooster's Roadhouse for barbecue and beer. This neighborhood bar can get rowdy, so if you're looking for something more sedate, look for steakhouses, Mexican fare, and Thai options nearby.
If you're visiting with kids and need a place to let the kids run free after a day of shopping and organized activities, Harmon Park is the place to go. Toddlers and older children each get designated play areas, and there's even a skate park on-site for all to enjoy. Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts should head over to LBJ National Grasslands. This nature preserve and its trails are literally off the beaten path. Be sure to pack lots of provisions for a long but visually stunning hike. You can also ride horses here.
Plan your trip to Decatur now to experience a “down home” Texas town where the traditions of the Old West live on and where you can live it up, Texas style.
