Like most cities, Yakima has great areas and poor areas. Red Lion is in one of the lower rent areas but near some of the better areas so it's easy to get around to the better restaurants etc and it's very close to Interstate access so that helps. If all you want is cheap accommodations that are fairly quiet then RD is good.
My wife and I both liked this city and the appearance and the restaurants for the two days that we were in the town!
Yakima has some hidden gems. We will be back.

We live on the west side of the mountains. Even though Packwood is closer to White Pass Ski Area, we choose to stay in Yakima because of the likelihood of seeing the sun, because of this hotel, being able to enjoy walks along the river trail right from the hotel, and of course the many restaurant choices.
