The Civil War delayed further homesteading in the area. After the war ended, additional residents came to Eustis and the city started to grow. Even today, Eustis is a popular winter destination for travelers who want to escape from the cold and snowy weather in other parts of the United States. Some of the buildings that date back more than a century are still standing in Eustis and are included on the National Register of Historic Places.
When should you visit Eustis, FL?
The climate in Eustis is warm throughout much of the year. Summers are hot and wet, with high humidity levels and rain on 11 to 12 days per month, on average. However, rainstorms are usually short-lived events and occur during the afternoons. Many visitors and part-time residents come during the late fall and winter seasons since overnight lows rarely drop below the mid-40s. You may see an increase in hotel rates during these seasons, although visitors come to Eustis during much of the year because of the proximity to Orlando, a popular visitor destination.
Eustis hosts one of the longest-running annual events in the nation. Georgefest, named for the first president of the United States, started in 1902. The festival is held on the last Friday of February every year and includes activities such as a 5K race, live entertainment, dancing, carnival rides, a parade, outdoor dining, and fireworks.
