Be sure to visit Bob Wills Museum to learn more about the legendary musician. The museum can be found in the Turkey Town Hall, and it showcases photos and mementos from the life and career of “The King of Swing.”
Turkey is very proud of its great son, so apart from the museum, you can also see a monument dedicated to Bob Wills - a tall column featuring highlights from his biography and topped by two fiddles symbolizing Wills and his band. You can also find The Texas Playboys' original tour bus parked next to a restored Phillips 66 station (which is also an interesting historic sight on its own!).
And if you want to listen to some of Bob Wills' music, not just read about it, Turkey hosts the annual Bob Wills Reunion festival.
Gem Theater is another historic place for local entertainment. Opened in 1928 it showed its first 'talkie' in 1931. Its simple yellow-brick facade was restored, but the “Gem Theater” plate saved its original look.
There are some great nature spots in Turkey, TX. Be sure to visit Caprock Canyons State Park. It is just a 30-minute drive away from Turkey. Caprock is considered to be the third-largest park in Texas, covering 13,960 acres.This park has 90 miles of trails along which you can see bison roaming free, bats nesting in Clarity Tunnel; or you can ride your bike (or a horse). It also offers camping opportunities. They range from drive-up sites with electricity to close-to-nature camping in tents.
To top it all off, you can bring your group for a fun picnic near Lake Theo. Swimming, fishing, and no-wake boating are allowed on the lake, so be sure you'll have some great time in nature out there!
