Fort Totten Park is a beautiful park in Whitestone that holds a rich history. The park was originally the Fort Totten Civil War Fortress built in 1863. After the war ended military base was closed, the land was turned into a park and opened to the public. The park is now a popular spot for locals and visitors to enjoy nature, go for a swim in the pool, join a tour around the preserved fortress and other historical structures adjacent to it, and take in the beautiful view of the Whitestone Bridge.

The Whitestone Bridge is one of the most popular local landmarks. The Bridge, one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world, was completed in 1939 and crossed the East River connecting Queens and Bronx. Whitestone's Historic District is also home to St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, and The Grace Episcopal Church. The Russian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas is very distinctive in the cityscape with its blue onion dome. It was built in 1991 (the previous building was of 1916). The Greek Orthodox Church and the Dwarf Giraffe Athletic League are located on 150th street.

One of the modern-day attractions also worth mentioning is the House of thousand lights. It is a seasonal occasion created by the Lynch Family to bring Christmas Spirit to their neighborhood and many other people that come specifically to encounter this beautiful site. Each year they decorate their house with an impressive amount of lights and ornaments, and in 2014 they also won a reality TV show competition for the Best Christmas Light Display.

There are some fantastic attractions not far away from Whitestone. Bronx Zoo is very close at hand to Whitestone; it'll take you twenty-five minutes to drive there. Featuring over 6,000 species, the Bronx Zoo is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting New York City. The zoo offers exhibits and activities for all ages with something for everyone. Some of the zoo's most popular exhibits include the Madagascar exhibit, Children's Zoo, and the Congo Gorilla Forest. The zoo also features a variety of animal shows, including the popular sea lion show. For those looking to get up close and personal with the animals, the Bronx Zoo offers a variety of animal encounters, wild encounters with cheetahs and sea lion and penguin feedings.

Whitestone is home to a large Italian-American population. Italian-American restaurants dominate Whitestone's food scene, but a few Chinese and Japanese restaurants also guarantee you a unique cultural experience.
