The Sandwich center point is about 4 miles southeast of Heritage Plantation and 5 miles southwest of Sandy Neck Beach.
The town's location at the east end of the Cape Cod Canal means that ocean breezes keep July highs near 80 degrees. This mild climate makes summer an enjoyable time to visit, but it is also the busiest season with the highest hotel rates. At the other extreme, Sandwich's prime oceanside location means cold winters and an average of 28 inches of snow per year, especially in February, the snowiest month (and also the most cost-efficient time to visit, as long as you bring your snow boots). Fall is popular for “leafers” — those seeking the famous New England foliage — and spring is mild, with temperatures topping out in the 60s; just remember to bring your umbrella, especially if planning a Spring Break trip in March.

As the oldest town on Cape Cod, Sandwich is home to many historical sites, such as the Sandwich Boardwalk. This picturesque attraction is a great place for a relaxing stroll, watching the local seals play on the beach, and catching a colorful Cape Cod sunset — no filters needed. The Hoxie House is believed to be Cape Cod's oldest home, and it provides visitors with a glimpse of life in Sandwich in the 17th century. The Sandwich Friends (Quaker) Meetinghouse is the oldest in North America. The Sandwich Glass Museum explains the history of glass making in Sandwich, including the founding of the Boston & Sandwich Glass Factory in 1825, which spurred development of the area. Be sure to catch the live glassblowing demonstrations.
You can even take home some history after a day spent browsing the Sandwich Antique Center, a 5,000-square-foot shopping complex. Or, visit the Heritage Museum and Gardens, the largest public garden in southern New England, which features 100 acres of flowers, landscaping, programs, and exhibits. Although the museum and gardens are open primarily during warm-weather months, Gardens Aglow lights up the grounds for the holidays and includes a visit from St. Nick himself. After exploring these sites, head out from Sandwich down the Old King's Highway, which passes by even more historic landmarks on Cape Cod.

Great area!
Sandwich was nice. We toured Hoxie House, Dexter Grist Mill, had dinner at Pilot House, breakfast at Cafe Chew and lunch at Riverview Cafe. Walked the Boardwalk. All a good experience.
We enjoyed the Heritage Museum and Gardens, the Sandwich glass museum, the Marshland restaurant and the boardwalk to the beach.
Sandwich is a charming town with good restaurants, beaches and easy access to the Bourn Bridge.
Loved the Mill Pond, the antique and interior decorating shops. Best was the Brown Jug with pizza and an excellent wine.
