How can you enjoy the history of San Carlos, CA?
San Carlos and the surrounding Bay Area have a rich history, which began with the Native Americans that originally inhabited the area. The Ohlone Indians lived in the area peacefully, relying on trade and hunting to survive. In 1769, the first westerner arrived in the area from Spain, and life changed dramatically for the native people. The Spanish took over the area and divided the land into large ranches which they distributed to people they deemed to be deserving. Not only did this mean the Native Americans had lost their homes, but the farming displaced the local animals that they relied upon for food.
When the Spanish came to America, they set up missions and military garrisons in the San Carlos area. With no homes and no food, the Native Americans were left with little choice but to convert to Christianity and seek help from the missions. By 1800, trade routes and alliances among the Native American people had fallen apart, and almost all of the original Native American population from the San Carlos area had converted. Their way of life was lost.
The Museum of San Carlos History has plenty of information about the Native Americans from the area, including an extensive display of original artifacts from that time. You can also learn about what has happened in the area since then to make San Carlos the city it is today. There are photos from early San Carlos life, a rare pottery collection, and plenty of information about local families and historic properties from the area. The museum is only open on Saturday afternoons and is closed completely during December, so take this into account if you want to make it part of your trip.

"Nice Restaurants & Nightlife"
Score
4.0 / 5
Ten years ago, we lived in San Carlos for two years so there are changes. Way more restaurants but what is nice is the nightlife is quiet unlike some towns where they are blasting the music way too loud that one has to shout to talk to someone sitting next to you. Also, unlike some towns the music stops at a certain time out of respect for the neighbours. They also have a good farmer's market.
