The Saint Joseph center point is around the area of Civic Center Park and 19 miles northeast of Evah C Cray Historical Home.
Saint Joseph enjoys four distinct seasons, with summers and winters bringing extreme temperatures at opposite ends of the spectrum. Highs in the summer, for instance, often exceed 90 degrees, but that doesn't stop tourists from arriving in droves. With the kids out of school and the sun shining brightly, many people prefer to visit between May and August thanks to the abundant outdoor activities in this city. However, you'll have to settle for high hotel prices and large crowds wherever you go, so you might consider skipping the summer if you're on a budget or if you're hoping to relax.
Fall and spring offer far more attractive options. The tourist rates decline sharply during both seasons, which means hotel prices become more affordable. In autumn, you'll see the trees change color and feel the first crisp breezes of fall. The more tolerable temperatures might encourage you to get outdoors more often. The same goes for springtime, though allergy sufferers might want to reconsider. Additionally, precipitation increases in spring, which could ruin your cycling or other outdoor plans.
Winters get extremely cold in Saint Joseph, with lows dipping into the teens on a regular basis. Though hotel rates become attractive between November and February, you'll have to stay indoors for most of your trip.
Bargain hunters can score great discounts in Saint Joseph if they fit specific criteria. For instance, senior citizens might want to stay at the Comfort Suites St. Joseph, which offers significant value, to take advantage of the senior citizen discount of up to 10 percent. You can also knock some money off your bill if you're an AARP or AAA member or if you're a government employee or military veteran.
If you're looking for the best bang for your buck, consider staying at the Comfort Suites St. Joseph. It's extremely affordable, but it also offers excellent amenities. Expect free wireless internet, a free daily newspaper, an on-site convenience store, and a well-equipped fitness center. There's also an indoor pool so that you can splash around no matter the weather outside, and this hotel features indoor corridors so you can feel safer as you come and go from your room. The free hot breakfast and 100 percent smoke-free rooms are just the icing on the hospitality cake.
There are 13 museums in Saint Joseph, which means you can easily spend a few days immersing yourself in history, art, and culture. The Glore Psychiatric Museum, for instance, often proves popular among tourists. It explores the history of mental illness and is housed in the State Lunatic Asylum No. 2. You'll see replicas of patients and the tools psychiatric professionals used to treat them as well as interactive exhibits.
If you're a fan of art, don't miss the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art. Its collection focuses on Midwestern art produced between the 1700s and 1900s. You can also take art classes if you're hoping to improve your skills. Alternatively, visit the Jesse James Home Museum, which is dedicated to the famed outlaw himself. The museum is the house where Jesse James was killed and displays artifacts from his life as well as information about his death.
The Patee House Museum is also a must-see. It once served as a luxury boutique hotel in Saint Joseph as well as a stop along the Pony Express. Today, it's a museum that celebrates the history of transit in the Midwest, and its exhibits include fantastic finds like an 1860s train and a stage coach. Visitors can climb aboard most of the exhibits, so get ready to step back in history.
Saint Joseph might not be as popular as St. Louis, but it's just as exciting if you're looking for a great vacation destination. It's also smaller, which means you won't have to deal with as many crowds, and you can get more rest and relaxation during your break from daily minutiae. Choose a hotel that meets your needs and get ready to pack your bags.

St Joseph is nice!
Beautiful wedding location!
So pleased with our grandson's experience at MO Western U., so much of our time was spent there helping with packing and of course the commencement and picture taking and a visit to the always amazing Walter Cronkite Memorial. Having been to St. Joe some years ago we saw some of the attractions (J. James home, Patee House, Pony Ex., etc.) so this time we ventured into a few other areas to seek out the popular Frederic Inn Steak House and the Glore Psychiatric Museum and the Apple Blossom Parade. We have always enjoyed our visits in St. Joseph and never have trouble finding great things to do/see and lots of places to eat.

St. Joseph is a sprawling, confusing town to drive in if you're not a native. But, there is great history here and some good antique shopping!
