A place brimming with history, culture, and natural splendor, Radford is named after Dr. John B. Radford. It has grown from a small riverside village into a bustling city that continues to evolve and flourish. Its transformation from a humble settlement to a vivid metropolis reflects the resilience and adaptability of its people. Its strategic location along the New River led to a significant population increase when the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad came through in 1854. This railway hub, initially known as Central Depot, became an essential point of trade and commerce, laying the foundation for growth. Understanding the city's heritage becomes an easy task when visiting the Glencoe Museum. Housed in a 19th-century Victorian-style building, this venue is a treasure trove of antiques narrating history. From Native American artifacts showcasing the New River's importance to the region's early inhabitants to exhibits detailing the industrial and educational evolution, the museum shows a comprehensive look at Radford's past. In Radford, you will also find the Ingles Bottom Archaeological Sites and Ingles Ferry, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These sites present yet another glimpse into the storied past. But Radford is not just about its past. Its lush parks host many open-air activities and serve as venues for little league games, reinforcing a sense of community. The largest is Bisset Park, stretching 57 acres along the New River. Here, you can enjoy a leisurely picnic, play a game of tennis, or embark on a scenic bike ride or walk along the Riverway Trail. Other parks like Sunset Park and Riverview Park afford further opportunities for recreation, while Wildwood Park serves as a wildlife and plant reserve. Additionally, this Virginia destination has a vivid cultural scene, with a local farmer's market and a movie theater, ensuring residents and visitors can immerse themselves in local life and entertainment.

The restaurants near by were excellent. Even had a grocery store near by. The best restaurant/bar we found was Macadoo's. They have a huge variety of food to appeal to every age. From salad's to to burgers, club sandwiches, to pizza. You name it, they had it.
