The Oswego center is approximately the area of H. Lee White Marine Museum and 1 mile southeast of Oswego Hospital.
Oswego experiences all four seasons in their extremes, although its northern location means the summers are brief and hot while the winters are long and cold. If you're looking to enjoy the area in all of its glory, visit between mid-May and early October. If you want to see the fall colors the Northeast is famous for, head to the area between late September and early October for peak colors. You'll want to adjust your visit accordingly depending on what you want to see in the area. If you want to go out onto Lake Superior as part of your trip, July is the best month for hot and dry weather.
Saving money on your hotel stay gives you the opportunity spend your money elsewhere and enjoy your visit that much more. It's important to find a hotel that offers excellent discounts to help you stretch your dollar. The Home2 Suites by Hilton Oswego gives you just that by offering modern and spacious suites with generous discounts. Members of AAA can get up to 10 percent off their hotel stay when mentioning the membership during the reservation process. AARP members and senors over 65 can get up to 10 percent off their rooms as well. Active and retired members of the military can get the military family rate when they make their reservation and show a valid ID when they check.
Just some of the things that makes the Home2 Suites such a great deal after discounts are that it's a modern hotel that's pet friendly; it has an onsite convenience store; the rooms are designed for long-term stays; it's close to shopping, restaurants, and other attractions; and it has an indoor pool and fitness center. There's also a free breakfast every morning and in-room kitchens to help you save even more on your meals.
Another hotel that offers value is the Red Roof Inn Fulton. This hotel is a little ways outside of Oswego, but it's a short ride to Oswego and you'll still save money by staying here. Some of the discounts at this pet-friendly hotel include free stays for pets; up to 15 percent off the room just for booking; and 10 percent off rooms for seniors over 65, as well as government and military workers. All rooms come with an in-room coffee maker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and flat-screen TV with cable channels. Larger rooms include a microwave and mini-fridge.
If all you're looking for is a place to call home base and you're not worried about luxury appointments, the Oswego Inn is perfect for you. The hotel is located near the Oswego River and Lake Ontario along with being a couple of miles away from SUNY Oswego. Rooms have televisions with free cable channels, refrigerator, microwave, in-room radio, coffee and tea maker, single-line telephone with free local calls, and alarm clock. Free WiFi is available for all guests and a free breakfast is available every morning. The bathrooms feature a massaging shower head.
Another hotel in the area that offers great value is the Port Lodge Motel Pulaski. Fishermen love staying at this hotel due to its location near the lake and rivers, but it's also great for families who want to check out the state parks along the shoreline. And getting to Oswego takes almost no time at all as Route 3 connects to the major roadways that go towards town. Rooms at the Port Lodge Motel have free WiFi access and cable channels for entertainment. There's an outdoor pool open seasonally, and the well-maintained grounds are open for guests to use as a picnic area.
The town of Oswego began life as a manufacturing and port town that was served by boat and rail. Most of the industry has disappeared over the years, but adaptive reuse of the properties has made Oswego into an interesting place to visit. The downtown area is still vibrant and bustling with antique stores, restaurants, boutiques, and restaurants. City Hall resides in a Gothic structure that dates to 1906 and features a clock tower. Designed by the architect Horatio Nelson White, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and shouldn't be missed when visiting Oswego.
Fort Ontario was originally built by the British to protect the region in 1755, but the structure has been destroyed multiple times since its inception. The fort has been involved in the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and even the Civil War to prevent the British from helping the South via Canada. It's now a state historic site and is home to living history recreations. It's a great place for kids to learn about American history and for adults to refresh their memories.
Another destination to check out is the Richardson-Bates House. The Italianate-style home was built for a local businessman who also served two terms as the mayor of Oswego. While the home is now the headquarters for the Oswego County Historical Society, it's also a museum in its own right. The interiors are fully intact with few changes since the original occupants left. Beautiful artwork hangs on the walls while opulent furnishings fill the rooms. The house is a great example of how the upper-class once lived their lives.
Oswego is a town that has more going for it than its proximity to the lake and university. It's a vibrant and historical place that has plenty of interesting things to do, see, and experience. Pick a hotel that suits your needs while you explore the area and all the things you can do during your stay.

The staff was friendly, professional and courteous. We had pleasant dialogue about the City of Oswego. The gave us information about the college, area, places to visit. It was our first time visiting and we left there feeling happy knowing that our son would be okay at Oswego University and in the city.
