The Needham center point is approximately 2 miles east of Wellesley College and 3 miles west of West Roxbury.
The best time to visit Needham is from summer to early fall when the weather is mild, and the outdoors are ripe for exploring. The only downside to visiting from June to October is the fact that it's peak tourist season in Boston, so you'll have hiked hotel rates and crowds to contend with. Still, you can't beat the Boston area in the summer, which makes the trip worth it.
Popular events to consider attending include Boston Pride, Cambridge Arts River Festival, Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, Boston Comic Con, and Oktoberfest. You'll also want to catch a Red Sox game at Fenway Park.
Winter is frigid in Boston, which keeps most tourists away. Average temperatures rest between the 20s and 50s, so pack plenty of layers and a trusty winter coat if you're visiting between November and February. If you do visit in the winter, however, you'll pretty much have major attractions like the Freedom Trail to yourself.
While spring is beautiful in Needham and Greater Boston, temperatures remain chilly. On the bright side, you'll find incredible hotel deals from March through May, not to mention access to numerous festivities like the St. Patrick's Day Parade, the Boston Marathon, the Boston International Film Festival, and Boston Calling.

Below are reviews of the city of Needham, MA from an actual visitor's perspective.
Very nice mall, good places to eat.
Blue on Highland Restaurant, Trader Joe's, local shopping, easy access to highway.
Safe and clean hotel with a convenient location. There are plenty of stores nearby, and it's very close to major highways. It's an ideal spot for doing business in Boston while avoiding the city's traffic.
We went bowling at Kings in Legacy Place with the grandkids. There's a game arcade and food and drink. We made a reservation for a lane. Once we arrived at our scheduled time, a server arrived to take our food and drink orders. There were billiard tables and air hockey games in addition to the usual arcade games. The staff is very friendly and attentive! The place was clean and fun and I'd definitely come back again!
Interesting restaurants nearby hotel.
Good restaurants and easy access domain corridor roadways.
Love the city!!
Easy access to and from Route 95.
I live in Newton so I am quite familiar with Needham. I go to restaurants there and sometimes shop at Sudbury Farms.
The area is clean.
Easy access to the interstate.
One Wingate was beautiful, food fabulous and since everyone who lives there is a "senior" we and they are treated with the utmost respect. They carried the musical instruments and would not let us pick up a thing. All night my partner was asked if they could get him anything for the pain. The staff took the musical instruments to where we were being picked up by the hotel driver. We were very happy to come home the next day.
Up and coming city, but what's here already is beautiful.
