Graph: Upcoming 20 Days of Las Vegas Hotel Rates

Rates shown are nightly rates before taxes and do not necessarily reflect all Las Vegas, NM discounts available. The chart reflects the cheapest Las Vegas hotel for each day and each star rating category.

Unlike the famed resort city of the same name, Las Vegas, New Mexico, has a laid-back vibe and historical charm with modest attractions and easy access to Storrie Lake State Park. The community was established in 1835 after settlers received a land grant from Mexico. The town grew in traditional Spanish Colonial style with a central plaza and fortifications, and it prospered thanks to the Santa Fe Trail and subsequent railroad.

The railroad brought with it new residents, development, and businesses, but also a slew of outlaws. The town's most notorious characters were legends Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid, Jesse James, and Wyatt Earp.

Today, Las Vegas is home to the New Mexico Highlands University, a historic museum, and the 1904 Carnegie Library, New Mexico's only surviving Carnegie Library. Whatever your reason for visiting this lesser-known Las Vegas, we're here to help you find the right hotel so you can enjoy everything this historic community has to offer.

When would be the best time to visit the town of Las Vegas, NM?

The best time to visit Las Vegas, New Mexico, is in September or October when the temperatures cool down. Average highs are 78 degrees in September and 69 degrees in October, with lows dipping close to 29. While the daytime temperatures are generally pleasant this time of year, you may want to bring a sweater to wear at night.

Another good time to visit is in April or May when highs range from 67 to 75 degrees. Lows are much chillier in April, however, so be prepared and pack layers. Winters are cold in this part of New Mexico, but if you can face the average highs around 50 degrees, you can save a lot of money on hotel rates.

Like most destinations, Las Vegas experiences the most tourists in the summer. Hotel rates are higher, but the town is relatively affordable no matter when you visit. Just be aware that you might have more crowds to contend with. One of the highlights of visiting in the summer is the fact that Fort Union hosts several events in June and July, including the annual Fort Union Days, a two-day event which highlights the fort's heritage and contributions to the region.
