If you are interested in history, there are a few places you should certainly visit. Start with the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Charleston harbor. The museum is dedicated to preserving the maritime heritage of the United States from WWII and beyond.
One of the key exhibits you'll see there is the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (1943). It participated in some of the most pivotal moments of World War II. And in more recent history, in December 1968, it served as the primary recovery ship for the Apollo 8 mission, which sent the first humans to orbit the moon. Yorktown was used for retrieving the astronauts and their capsules after they returned to Earth.
Other exhibits include the destroyer USS Laffey and the submarine USS Clamagore.

Another exciting, immersive historical exhibit is The CSS Hunley. It is a Confederate submarine that was the first to sink a ship on its own. However, the Hunley was lost at sea after it sank the Union ship Housatonic in 1864. The wreck of the Hunley was found in 1995, and it was raised in 2000. Today it is displayed at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center on the Cooper River. The original vessel is preserved in a water tank, but there's an exact replica open for visitors to enter. This tour will take you back in time to experience what it was like to be on board this historic submarine.
