The home of early 20th-century Pennsylvania Governor Samuel W. Pennypacker features his collections of historically significant antiques and artifacts. He had an interest in German and Dutch Settlers, early Pennsylvania, the Civil and Revolutionary Wars, and Native Americans. The collection also includes Pennypacker's genealogical papers documenting his ancestry and his career in the military.
Another great place to visit in Collegeville is The Philip & Muriel Berman Museum of Art. Located at 601 E Main St., on Ursinus College's campus, the museum has an extensive collection of art from various periods and styles. The collection includes artwork on paper, paintings, modern sculptures, Japanese art, and more. The Japanese art collection shared with Ursinus College serves to teach students enrolled in the many Japanese language classes at the university about Japanese culture.
On the museum's grounds are many large contemporary sculptures, something the Bermans were very passionate about. Some of the artists with pieces in the collection include Igael Tumarkin, Buky Schwartz, Lynn Chadwick, Menashe Kadishman, and George R. Anthonisen.
If you are into visiting historic sites, you should plan to stop by Valley Forge National Historical Park. The park was the site of the 1777-78 encampment of the Continental Army and often hosts reenactments and events to commemorate the sacrifices of the many soldiers who fought together during the Revolutionary War. You can hike the trails that connect many of the historic structures, such as the National Memorial Arch and log-cabin barracks. Valley Forge is located at 1400 North Outer Line Dr. in King of Prussia — just a 16-minute drive from Collegeville.
