Historic Cocoa Village is a collection of architecturally significant buildings that were erected towards the end of the 19th century and into the early 1920s. The Brevard Museum of History & Natural Science consists of multiple museums: the Brevard Museum, Library of Florida History, Florida Frontiers, Rossetter House Museum, and the FHS Archeological Institute. The Library of Florida History contains rare books and manuscripts that relate to the state's history. The Rossetter House and Gardens are maintained by the organization and are open for tours. Last, but not least, the Brevard Museum houses exhibits that relate to Florida history, geology, and ancient peoples that once lived on the land.
Merritt Island, where the Kennedy Space Center is located, is also the location of the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. An incredibly diverse population of plants, fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals live on the island, and 21 of the island's indigenous species are on state and federal endangered species lists. Bald eagles, ospreys, spoonbills, and even bobcats are some of the residents of the island and are easily sighted while walking around the trails in the refuge.
