The growth and expansion of the city really began in 1898 when the Santa Fe Railroad opened a large station in town. Access to transit caused the town's first big population boom and lead to the construction of a number of historic buildings that still stand today. By 1920, roughly 12,000 residents lived in Cleburn and the population continued to grow as it became an increasingly important trade hub for the area.
The city continues to grow to this day due to its proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth area and is a hotspot of museums and historical landmarks. If these attractions interest you, here are some tips when planning your trip.

This Super 8 typically runs just a few dollars more per night than the Motel 6 and boasts pet-friendly rooms and laundry service. Cleburne is a town filled with historical significance. It is a utopia for history buffs and museum enthusiasts, especially those with an interest in the Civil War. One essential destination in Cleburne is the one-of-a-kind Gone With the Wind Museum. This museum has a number of historically significant artifacts from the time period, as well as a number of original costumes and props that appear in the movie. The museum has over 6,000 pieces and includes a number of Victorian dolls inspired by the movie.
Be aware, however, that the museum is small and operates on somewhat odd hours, so plan ahead if you want to see the rare collections. In fact, the museum suggests guests call ahead to make sure the museum will be open when they arrive.
If you're looking for a museum for those with broader interests or for a great place to take kids who are eager to learn, the Layland Museum is just the spot. The museum features Native American artifacts, like pottery and clothing, that date back as far as 300 years.
The museum also has a pioneer exhibit that displays vintage photographs and clothing items from the period, as well as a 20th-century gallery displaying items from 1920 to 1990. Check out the museum's exhibit of a car and gas pumps from the 1920s to step back in time to the prohibition era. There is also a library on the museum grounds that hosts a slew of very rare and unique pieces of literature.
