The Beckley center point is approximately the area of Mountain State University and the area of Wildwood House Museum.
Deciding when to visit Beckley is entirely dependent on what activities you enjoy. In the winter, temperatures typically range from the low 20s to the low 40s, necessitating some heavy winter clothing. Beckley also gets an average winter snowfall of over a foot per month. Because of this snow, there are several nearby ski fields, such as the Winterplace Ski Resort, that are perfect for beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiers. In case powder has freshly fallen or for holiday weekends, you may want to book a hotel well in advance to get the best rate and the hotel of your choice.
In the fall, Beckley becomes an outdoorsman's paradise. The foliage of the Appalachians changes to vibrant hues of red, orange, and yellow, making it the ideal time of year to do some prime leaf viewing. In addition, hiking trails provide spectacular views of the surrounding area, and range from easy to difficult. Temperatures from September to November are highly volatile, and can go as high as the 70s, yet as low as 30s. Make sure to pack appropriately, so you aren't left out in the cold. During the fall, Beckley also hosts its annual Chili Night, which gives you the opportunity to try recipes from over 40 vendors. In October, the New River Gorge area hosts its annual Bridge Day BASE jumping festival, which draws over 100,000 spectators. Booking the hotel of your choice isn't always easy in the fall, so early bookings are highly recommended.
If you're looking to score a deal on a hotel room, the spring provides a welcome break from the skiers and snowboarders. It also allows you the chance to roam Beckley's lovely downtown area, which boasts several parks, delectable restaurants, and a number of stores to satisfy your shopping needs. Temperatures during this time are comfortable, although this is the rainy season, with an average rainfall of over 15 inches. Hotel demand drops sharply in the spring, making last-minute bookings a definite possibility.
The summer is the high tourist season in Beckley, as the climate is perfect and there's a plethora of activities for people of all ages. One of the most popular things to do during this time is head out on the New River. If you're looking for relaxation, try a float trip. For the more extreme sportsman, the river offers an array of whitewater rafting courses, ranging from beginner to expert. Hotels tend to book up quickly during this time, so you'll need to book a room weeks and perhaps months before your arrival.
Finding a hotel discount in Beckley isn't difficult if you know where to look. At the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, you'll get sizable discounts if you're a AAA member, a senior, or an AARP card holder. Each room here comes with a refrigerator, a microwave, a 32-inch LCD television with cable programming, complimentary Wi-Fi, a pillow top bed, and a sofa bed to accommodate more of your friends or family. On-site perks include a cozy common room fireplace, a seasonal outdoor pool, exercise room, and a free breakfast with sausage, scrambled eggs, yogurt, oatmeal, fresh fruit, and more. Plus, you're next to the Tamarack, which has great shopping and restaurants, Hawk's Nest State Park, Exhibition Coal Mine, and Flat Top Mountain Paintball. With so much to do, there's no chance that you'll end up sitting in your room all day.
If you're looking for a mid-range hotel with plenty of amenities but without the high price, Beckley has several choices. One of these is the Country Inn & Suites. You'll love the spacious floor plans that offer perks such as high-speed wireless internet, cable television with HBO, coffee and tea, free local calls, a pillow top mattress, a microwave, a refrigerator, and a work desk. Once you're done lounging around or finishing up some work, you can hit the indoor or outdoor pool, and you can enjoy a hot breakfast each morning. When you've had your fill, head on over to the New River Gorge for some hiking and spectacular views.
Wherever you decide to hunker down on your trip to Beckley, you'll be only a few miles from many of the area's best attractions. Perhaps the most interesting and exciting event is Bridge Day, which takes place each October just a short drive from Beckley. This event showcases the daring acts of thrill seekers as they BASE jump off the 876-foot-high New River Gorge Bridge. Participants dress in costumes, reenact fight scenes, and even get married as they hurl themselves into the ravine below. If you're looking to join the fun, you can even sign up for BASE jumping training. For those that can't stomach the idea of jumping off a bridge, Bridge Day also has a chili cook-off, music festival, and food vendors. If you can't manage to get to the bridge during October, you can still soak up the amazing views year-round.
For a unique and purely West Virginia experience, take a trip to the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum. Here, you can travel into an actual coal mine that closed over 100 years ago and learn about the substance that still fuels much of the world's power and West Virginia's economy. Along the way, tour guides teach you about the dangers of coal mining, as well as how to properly blast holes in the ground. While coal may not sound like a ton of fun, you'll enjoy learning all about it.
Whether you're looking for upscale accommodations in the downtown area or you want a value or affordable option closer to the outskirts of town, you can find the perfect hotel in Beckley that meets your needs and budget.

Nice Town
It was nice to have the Outback Restaurant right next door.
We found all the necessities for travel to be close at hand. Food and lodging was easily attained, roads and streets were well maintained, everyone in the hospitality sector was friendly and knowledgeable when we needed assistance. We were pleased to find that Southern hospitality still exists.
Both front desk agents on the AM and PM shifts are amazing people. While I was checking out, the front desk lady asked me about my stay and if I needed any help. She was very informative and welcoming. I will definitely return and recommend this hotel to everyone from my company.
