Melbourne is a nice, quiet and relaxing city that continues to flourish. New properties are being developed (real estate, restaurants, shopping areas) which makes it is a great family oriented place to live in and a great getaway in an ideal location not too far from Orlando. Downtown Melbourne offers all kinds of eateries, entertainment and art. On the second Friday of every month, the city's Main Street holds Friday Fest, free for all ages with live music, vendors, food and even a Kid Zone. Melbourne is also home to miles of beaches, fishing, golfing and other wonderful outdoor activities. When in town, don't miss out on planning a visit to the Brevard Zoo which offers zoo packages with admission which can include a kayaking tour along Expedition Africa, a paddle boarding adventure, train tickets and feeding the lovely giraffes and lively lorikeets. If you're more of an adventure seeker, the Treetop Trek also at Brevard Zoo offers tree climbing obstacle courses and zip lining which takes you high above throughout the park. Aside from fun activities, one of Melbourne's best places to eat is Mustard's Last Stand, a historic Chicago Style Eatery with all things hot dogs, more than ten varieties of fries and more. Find a great stay in a city filled with charm and adventure.
The city of Melbourne was founded in 1867 when pioneer families made their way to the area after the Civil War. Settlers began arriving around 1877, and Melbourne was officially incorporated in 1888. During the late 1800's, the community continued to see an increase in residents and prosperity. Today, Melbourne still maintains its small-town charm with an estimated 80,000 residents.
