The Manhattan Beach center is around the area of Manhattan Beach Pier.
To put it simply, there's really no bad time to visit Manhattan Beach. The temperatures are surprisingly moderate, with Manhattan Beach standing out as the coolest, breeziest beach among the trio of Beach Cities. The soft breezes keep surfers, athletes, and sunbathers comfortable as they enjoy the water. It also causes the dunes to shift into new, increasingly interesting shapes, hills, and sandy mountains.
Summertime is unquestionably peak season in Manhattan Beach. The city's annual activities and contests typically take place there, so it's apt to get fairly crowded during the warmest, sunniest season. The crowds are largely friendly, welcoming, and genuinely happy, however, so a summer visit is worthwhile.
Manhattan Beach makes the most of every season, however. Visit during fall, winter, or spring and you'll also find upbeat crowds playing in the surf or battling the waves. Things get a bit cooler around late winter, but the rest of the year, the sun promises to shine.
Many guests assume that because Manhattan Beach is such a high-profile spot that the hotels don't offer discounts, but that's not true at all. Although the area is a paradise, it caters to the well-to-do, the wealthy, and the budget-conscious traveler. Not only do low-cost hotels typically offer discounts for anyone with an AAA membership or a military ID, but plenty of high-quality hotels do, as well. When you're booking or when you check in, make sure to ask.
Request information about possible discounts related to your AAA account, your military service, or even your age. Several hotels provide discounts or special amenities to elderly guests or groups that include elderly guests. If you're traveling for business, it's also possible to get a lower rate. This is especially true for business groups traveling to Manhattan Beach. In addition to less expensive rates, you may get additional deals, such as free use of the conference room or A/V equipment.
Seeking out the best value options in Manhattan Beach may take some work. At first glance, even the most luxurious hotels offer high value, and that's true. Whether you choose a beachfront hotel or decide to save by staying a few miles away, the daily rates run the gamut. Some hotels will cut you a deal based on how many nights you spend at the hotel.
These potential discounts are not the only ways to improve your value. Although you should by all means inquire about the discounts available, you also want to pay attention to the location. You get better value if you stay in a hotel that's centrally located near other features you want to enjoy. If you're vacationing with kids, you may want to choose a hotel that provides kid-friendly amenities, or one that's located near kid-friendly places and activities. Eager to shop 'til you drop? Then a spot close to one of Manhattan Beach's epic shopping streets is a must.
Manhattan Beach is more than just the beach, but there's no denying its importance in the area. Homes line the beach, each one quirkier than the next. A stroll along the picturesque Manhattan Beach Pier affords a jaw-dropping view of the shore. The pier is a popular draw for tourists and locals alike. It stretches an impressive 928 feet in length. No matter when you visit the area, you can grab your fishing pole and start fishing off the side of the pier, which is always permitted. Sunset views along the pier are the stuff dreams are made of.
There's a surprise waiting at the end of the pier – the Roundhouse Aquarium. It's a small aquarium, but it holds enormous treasures. This is an excellent way to see the local ocean dwellers. All the aquatic life in the aquarium is local to the Manhattan Beach area, and admittance is free.
The Strand is another popular place. There, people love to roller blade or skate, ride their bikes, jog, or simply walk. The people-watching options are second-to-none. In mid- to late-summer – sometimes in July, sometimes in August – the city hosts the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix, which is America's second-oldest Pro-Am bicycling race. The area's famed Beach Volleyball Championship takes place around the same time. For a more local flair, visit the Farmer's Market every Tuesday. Just head straight to the downtown area, right near the Metlox center.
Don't forget to head down to Manhattan Beach Boulevard, either. Arguably one of the most popular areas in Manhattan Beach, the Boulevard is well-known for its shopping opportunities. In addition to all your favorite stores, there's a wealth of adorable boutiques. The area is also home to some of the best restaurants you'll ever visit, ranging from casual dining to ritzy.
The area is full of bars and nightclubs, as well, many of which are either located on the beach or near it. Can you imagine dancing the night away with stunning views of the beach spreading out in front of you? It makes for a magical vacation experience.
Whether you visit in summer, winter, or spring, Manhattan Beach has something for everyone – surfers, shoppers, athletes, well-to-do visitors, and guests who need to keep to their budget. You can easily find a hotel that fits both your needs and your price point, although it's vital to remember that booking as early as possible is always a good idea.
