Many memorable moments have occurred at the Talking Stick Resort Arena, formerly the America West Arena, including three 1993 NBA Finals, one of the 1998 WNBA game finals and two Arena Bowl games. In 1997, the Rattlers clinched the Arena Football League world championship inside these walls.
Each year, a variety of events are held at the Talking Stick Resort Arena, including professional wrestling, music concerts, boxing competitions, family shows and much more. In fact, over 200 events are held annually and over two million spectators pack the arena each year. Glass walls, a large video screen and a grand entrance combine to give fans a terrific look at the modern amenities this facility has to offer.
Fans in search of officially licensed merchandise can browse the Teamshop, which is located inside the Talking Stick Resort Arena. A variety of apparel, collectibles and other souvenirs are up for grabs during normal business hours, as well as special event hours during game days.
In January 2006, the doors of the former America West Arena reopened as the US Airways Center. Under the terms of a new 10 year partnership, the name was changed in September after a successful merger among America West Airlines and US Airways. In December 2014 the name was changed once again to Talking Stick Resort Arena. The new naming rights agreement will be incorporated throughout the building, in advertising, promotions, activities and other operations. America West Arena, now known as Talking Stick Resort Arena, recently underwent a $70 million improvement project. The once outdoor ticket office is now enclosed in the new Casino Arizona Pavilion, which serves as the venue's entrance. Among the other improvements, a 900 ft. LED ribbon, a center hung scoreboard, new sound system, a new Courtside Club, Lexus Club and more. The project of converting America West Arena to the new US Airways Center and now Talking Stick Resort Arena occurred over a period of several months. January 2006 served as the official unveiling.
