The best time to visit Odessa is in spring or fall when the weather isn't too hot or too chilly. However, these are the busiest times, so hotel rates are higher. At the SandHills Stock Show and Rodeo in the first week in January, you can see a stock show, a quarter horse show, a rodeo, dances, and a Tex-Mex barrel race. You can also visit the OC NIRA Rodeo in March, where about 400 students from 14 colleges compete in several rodeo events.
Cinco de Mayo on the first weekend in May celebrates Mexico's independence from France. There's a parade and Fiesta West Texas, a three-day event at the Ector County Coliseum. You can enjoy a carnival, live entertainment, authentic Mexican food, and traditional Mexican customs. On the 4th of July, the Jaycees' Independence Day Parade is in the morning, and then the Firecracker Fandango starts at 6:00 p.m. It's a family festival on Main Street with live entertainment, activities for kids, food, exhibits, and an exciting fireworks display. Hotel rates are less expensive in summer and winter, and you can enjoy outdoor activities all year since winters are mild.
