Welcome to Birmingham
Situated in the West Midlands of England, Birmingham blends centuries of history with weekend-worthy attractions. The city was a mid-sized market town during the medieval period, later rising to international stature in the 18th century during the Midland Enlightenment. Nowadays, visitors will find top-notch museums and art galleries along with theaters and shopping districts. With more than 1 million residents, Birmingham is the second-most populated British city behind London.
Wondering what to pack? Birmingham has a marine west coast climate that is fairly mild, but overcast skies tend to be the forecast throughout the year. Throw in a light jacket no matter what season you're visiting. And as a pointer, when you're meeting locals, people from Birmingham are called "Brummies."
It's quite easy to get around Birmingham. While buses, rental cars and trains are efficient, most of the cities' main attraction are just a few minutes' walk apart, making it simple to explore the city on foot. There are eight local rail lines that criss-cross through the Birmingham, and the recently added Midland Metro brings passengers between Snow Hill Station in Birmingham city center and Wolverhampton.
