The Inside Scoop by our Local Expert
Since 1907, people across America have celebrated the new year by watching the famous ball drop in New York City's Times Square, followed by the release of an entire ton of confetti across the square. If you're in New York on New Year's Eve, it's easy and fun to see the ball drop in person. No tickets or reservations are required. Just be sure to arrive in enough time to clear the NYPD security checkpoints (20 minutes is a good idea) and be aware that almost a million people will be crowded into Times Square to watch the event -- showing up early to get a good spot is definitely recommended.
