The Inside Scoop by our Local Expert
Held at Brenton Point State Park in southern Newport, Rhode Island each year, the Newport International Kite Festival has been in operation since 1986. The festival has changed hands several times over the years, having been hosted by High Flyers Flight Co. and Kitt Kites among others.
The festival, which is held the second weekend of July each year, offers several fun events. Candy drops are done for children twice daily and sports and power kite demos are a common event. Divided by age categories and resulting in prizes, Rokkaku battles are also a popular event. Food concessions are available at the festival.
