"Spring training facility for the Pittsburgh Pirates"
Located in Bradenton, FL, the 8,500-seat LECOM Park is the spring training facility for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Marauders of the Florida State League also use the stadium. It is named to honor Bill McKechnie, a member of two World Series winning teams and a native of the city. Prior to the Pirates, several other major league teams including Oakland, Boston and Philadelphia used the facility. The stadium opened in 1923 and is the third oldest used by the major league after Fenway Park and Wrigley Field. Park management renovated and upgraded the facility in 1993 and 2013. Several legendary Hall of Famers have played at LECOM Park (formerly McKechnie Field) including Willie Stargell, Roberto Clemente, Ted Williams and Babe Ruth. The stadium did not host its first night game until 2008. This made it the last facility used by major league baseball to do so. The stadium has recently added new concessions stands, sound system, seating and other fan-friendly enhancements. More from this guide...
