The Inside Scoop by our Local Expert
A historic district, the San Francisco Aquatic Park is right on the waterfront just down from Fisherman's Warf. The Aquatic Park is part of the larger San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, and is a National Historic Landmark. The park includes the Municipal Pier, beach, bathhouse, restrooms, concession stand and more. Visitors and locals can enjoy walking out to the pier, touring through the bathhouse, and enjoying recreation in the beach area. The bathhouse is a late Art Deco style building from the 1930s. This public bathhouse has brightly colored, fanciful murals on the interior. The Municipal Pier stretches out in a horseshoe shape across the west of a manmade lagoon. Along the shore is a combination of sandy beach and stepped seawall. The lagoon is a popular, clean, safe place for swimming.
