Welcome to Philadelphia
Known to the locals as "Philly," this Pennsylvania city is among the most populous in the country and a major tourist destination. It's comprised of several districts, from Old City to South Philly. But most visitors spend their time in the City Center, the downtown area of the metropolis. It's one of America's most bustling business districts, containing a massive convention center, city hall, an outdoor mall and many lofty skyscrapers, not to mention the art museum district and other cultural establishments.
Philadelphia is also known for its rich history. It served as the foundation for modern democracy in the U.S. - Quakers arrived here in the 1600s and were staunch promoters of religious freedom. After English rule ended, it went on to serve as the nation's capital for a decade and was the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
