The Inside Scoop by our Local Expert
Dupont Circle can be found in the heart of the nation's capital. Known for its vast beauty and vibrant cosmopolitan offerings, Dupont Circle attracts people from all walks of life. The eclectic area is home to an array of art galleries, museums, and fine restaurants, and also serves as an epicenter of D.C.'s vibrant nightlife. As with most attractions in Washington D.C., Dupont Circle has a rich history. It is named after Samuel Francis Du Pont, a rear admiral during the Civil War, whose likeness is represented by a white marble statue designed by the sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial. The Dupont Circle area is listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks, and is also home to many foreign embassies. In fact, Embassy Row is located on nearby Massachusetts Avenue; the Christian Hauge House is home to the Embassy of Cameron; The Joseph Beale House to the Egyptian embassy; and the Walsh-McLean House to the Indonesian embassy.
