The Starkville center is about the area of Oktibbeha County Hospital and the area of Downtown Starkville.
The best time to visit Starkville is during fall, when the college kids come into town and add a vibrance to the city that's unmatched. It's also the start of Mississippi State University's college football season, which is nearly a religion in Starkville. The weather remains nice throughout most of the season with highs ranging from the mid-60s to the mid-80s and lows from 40 to 60 degrees. If you're attending a football game or walking around downtown, make sure to grab a jacket to stay comfortable. Hotel demand is at its highest, so make sure to book early.
If you want to beat the crowds and experience Starkville without all the congestion, head to the city during the summer. The population drops to about 20,000, and you can explore the area without waiting in line at restaurants or bumping into people on sidewalks. The temperatures top out in the 90s nearly every day from June to August, with a relieving low of about 70 at night. This is the perfect time to snag a deal at a hotel due to low demand.
Winter can get downright cold in Starkville compared to other places in the South, with temperatures ranging from the 30s to the 50s. Precipitation is at its highest in winter, so aside from bringing a winter jacket, you may also want to get a rain coat. During college basketball season, hotel demand can go up, so book a hotel in advance.
Spring is a beautiful time of year in Starkville as temperatures hang between 50 and 70 degrees. Mississippi State baseball is well attended during this time, but there are other events taking place that are unaffiliated with the university. Finding a hotel room isn't all that difficult during this time, and you'll find a better selection of accommodations at prices you'll love.
Before you book a hotel room, don't leave extra money on the table. Instead, take a look at these discounts. Military members and government personnel can save money a the America's Best Value Inn on rooms with a king bed, two double beds, or a junior suite. Enjoy a refrigerator, free Wi-Fi,microwave, 40-inch LCD television with cable programming, and a coffee maker during your stay. You can also take advantage of on-site amenities such as an outdoor pool, picnic area, and complimentary continental breakfast.
When you want all the amenities of a high-end hotel without paying big money, Starkville has plenty of mid-range, value options to suit your needs. Close to all the action, the Comfort Suites has everything you need for a relaxing stay. Choose from a king room, two queen beds, or two double beds, or upgrade to a suite if you need more room for a big crew or your family. Start your day with a full spread of hot and cold foods at their complimentary breakfast or grab a cup of coffee in the lobby if you're in a hurry. Make a splash in the outdoor pool, connect with family or friends with complimentary wireless internet, or work out in the fitness room if you have some extra time.
Situated in southeast Starkville, the Hampton Inn is further away from downtown than some other hotels, but the trade-off is less congestion and some peace and quiet. The bar/lounge, fitness center, and outdoor pool are all guest favorites, but your room still gives you nice amenities such as free Wi-Fi, cable television, a desk to get some work done, and a coffee maker. If you have a large group or need to schedule a meeting, inquire about the hotel's large meeting and conference room.
Since Starkville's pulse is often determined by Mississippi State athletics, no trip is complete without attending one of the games. Even if you don't keep up with college sports, you can appreciate the buzz and feeling in the air from the start of the tailgating until the early morning hours when the party finally starts to calm down. Davis Wade Stadium holds up to 61,000 spectators, giving you an excellent view of the action no matter where you sit. If you're a bigger fan of baseball, Dudy Noble Field is right on campus, and you can cheer the Bulldogs to victory over their Southeastern Conference (SEC) rivals.
When the Bulldogs are out of town, take a trip to historic downtown Starkville for some excellent shopping and dining options. In spring and summer months, go to the Starkville Community Market each Saturday. This weekly event has local growers, farmers, and artisans showcasing their goods. Choose from fresh produce or one of the other concoctions they make from sustainably sourced products. In addition, the market has cooking classes, kids' activities, and live music.
After you're done with the market, or you're getting ready for the football game, stay downtown for an array of bakeries, eateries, and bars. Grab a beer and a burger at Mugshots Bar and Grill or have brunch at restaurant Tyler, voted the best brunch in Mississippi.

College town.
Starkville being a college town naturally had a lot of places to eat. We were there for a wedding held at Dodson Farms so basically, we did not have much time to explore any other sites in Starkville. We did attend Mass on Sunday morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church. It was a very pretty church and lots of friendly people.
Lovely downtown with lots of interesting shops and restaurants.
