The Hobbs center is about 1 mile south of Va Outpatient Clinic and 4 miles southeast of Lea Co Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Surrounded on all sides by flatlands and desert, Hobbs is the stereotypical New Mexico town. Little vegetation or much of anything grows here, but the vast nothingness mixed with the bright, clear, blue skies of the area is truly amazing and soothing. The area surrounding Hobbs offers tons of family-friendly activities, as well as events geared toward adults. Either way, you'll find something to suit your needs and interests on your next visit to this interesting Old West town. More from this guide...

Graph of Hobbs, NM Hotel Prices for Next 20 Days

Rates shown are nightly rates before taxes and do not necessarily reflect all Hobbs, NM discounts available. The chart reflects the cheapest Hobbs hotel for each day and each star rating category.

Founded in 1907 by James Hobbs, the city of Hobbs was originally created for cattle ranchers and later became a hub for the oil industry. Following the Great Depression, oil prices dropped, and many people left the town. The addition of an air base, a casino, and several higher learning institutions caused the city to flourish since the 1930s, and today, Hobbs is home to about 38,000 people. If you've never experienced New Mexico, a visit to Hobbs is almost a necessity, billing itself as the gateway to the Land of Enchantment, and a melting pot of cultures featuring people of Native American, Hispanic, and European ancestry.

Whether you're visiting Hobbs for business or pleasure, it's important to find the perfect hotel room to fit your needs and lifestyle. From budget accommodation on the outskirts of the city to something more upscale and in town, your choice of hotel sets the mood for your entire trip, and its importance shouldn't be ignored.

When is the best time to visit Hobbs, NM?

Like many other parts of eastern New Mexico and west Texas, Hobbs has a semi-arid, desert climate, which has a huge range of temperatures depending on the season and throughout a given day. If you can handle a dry heat, visit Hobbs during summer. While temperatures can get to a scorching 90 degrees every day, the evenings cool off to about the mid-60s, offering much needed relief. Hotel demands can get high during this time of year, as tourists from around the Southwest stop through Hobbs to check out their museums and art galleries.

During the winter, Hobbs can get chilly, offering temperatures from 30 degrees to the mid-50s. Every so often, snow will fall in Hobbs, but it rarely stays around for long, as temperatures warm up and melt the snow. Few activities take place in winter, so if you're looking to explore the city and save tons of cash on a hotel room, make sure to book a hotel during this time.

From March to May and September through November, the temperatures stay at a comfortable rate between 50 and 70 degrees, with the temperatures sometimes going as high as the mid-80s. There's almost no precipitation during this time, so you can leave your rain jacket at home. Hotel prices have a wide range during this time, so you may want to book ahead or see what's happening around town before you book your trip.

What are the luxury hotel options in Hobbs, NM?

The TownePlace Suites by Marriott is the quintessential luxury destination in Hobbs. Located in the center of the Northwest business district of the city, it's the ideal place for business travelers, while also close enough to some of the major attractions for vacationers. Rooms come in four configurations and come equipped with complimentary wireless internet, 32-inch flat-screen smart televisions, and a kitchenette with a microwave, stovetop, and refrigerator. At the end of the day, soothe your aching muscles in the spa tub, splash around in the pool, cook dinner on their free Weber grills, hit the weight room, or catch up on work in the 24-hour business center.

What are the budget hotel options in Hobbs, NM?

3 Star Average Prices: $104.91

The Brentwood Inn & Suites in the heart of Hobbs is one of the best places to enjoy a budget stay without sacrificing the extras. You're close to many of the area's top attractions such as the Lea County Event Center, New Mexico Junior College, and the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum. Each of the 55 rooms has ice-cold air conditioning for those scorching New Mexico summer days, a microwave, a refrigerator, cable television, and complimentary wired and wireless internet.

Start your day off right with a complimentary continental breakfast, and once you've had your fill, head over to the front desk to take advantage of their tour and ticket assistance. When you're ready to unwind, go for a run in the fitness center, take a dip year-round in the indoor pool, or relax in the spa tub.

Another excellent low-cost option is the Country Inn & Suites. Offering king bed, two double bed, and two queen bed arrangements, you're in for a relaxing stay from the time you check-in until you check-out. Each room gives you the full opportunity to relax thanks to a coffee/tea maker, a 32-inch LCD flat-screen television, and free wireless internet that keeps you connected to work, news, sports, and social media. A complimentary breakfast is the perfect way to get ready for your day, and if you're looking to lounge around, the pool, spa tub, and fitness center offer opportunities you don't normally find at budget hotels.

2 Star Average Prices: $93.63

What hotels in Hobbs, NM are offering the best discounts?

It's never a good idea to pay full price for a hotel when you don't have to. At the Comfort Suites, members of AAA and the AARP can enjoy discounts of up to 10 percent while still getting the full breadth of amenities as other guests. Close to the Zia Park Casino and Racetrack and the Hobbs central business district, this hotel is ideal for both business and leisure travelers. Relax at the end of the day on one of their pillowtop mattresses as you watch cable programming or surf the internet for free.

What are the best value hotel options in Hobbs, NM?

If you want all of the extras but don't want to pay top dollar for your accommodation, plan a stay at the La Quinta Inn & Suites. Relax after a long day in rooms with either a king bed, queen bed, or two queen beds, and enjoy perks such as a flat-screen television, wireless internet, a desk, microwave, refrigerator, and daily housekeeping to keep your room nice and tidy. If you want to save some more cash, buy some meat and veggies and cook them up on one of the community grills, as you watch your family and friends enjoy a day in the pool or the hot tub.

What are the top attractions and destinations in Hobbs, NM?

Hobbs is mostly residential, but it does offer a few attractions that are worth the trip. If you're into golfing, plan a trip to the Ocotillo Golf Course, complete with a driving range right in the middle of the course. Despite being surrounded by desert, this course is well manicured, lush, and beautiful, making it one of the most inviting courses in all of New Mexico. If you're planning on making a lengthy trip for golfing, purchase a five-day or seven-day pass to save some money, or you can take lessons from a golf pro to help you take some strokes off your game.

Feeling lucky? Head over to the Zia Park Casino. With 750 slots and video poker games, you can press your luck as you try to take home the jackpot. During the fall, the casino opens its horse track with live racing, as well as off-track betting throughout the year. Other events at the casino throughout the week include karaoke, live music, a DJ on weekends, and a trivia night. A steakhouse, casual bar and grill, and a sports bar provide food and drink if you're feeling famished after winning.

One of the most interesting attractions in Hobbs is the headquarters of the Soaring Society of America. Soaring, also known as gliding, is a recreational activity in which pilots fly a glider, or unpowered aircraft, using only natural wind and currents to keep the glider in the air. While the headquarters isn't open to tours, it does offer events throughout the year providing directions if you want to try your hand at soaring. If you're lucky, you may come across a sailplane racing competition, which takes place in Hobbs and other towns in west Texas. It's definitely one of those activities that you won't find in many other places on the planet.

If you're interested in the rich history of Hobbs, take a visit to one of the three museums located throughout the city. The Western Heritage Museum and Cowboy Hall of Fame at New Mexico Junior College, the Thelma A. Webber Southwest Heritage Room on the University of the Southwest campus, and the Lea County Museum in nearby Lovington all paint a picture of what life was like for cattle ranchers nearly 100 years ago. The next time you take a bite of a steak, you'll realize the hardships that go into providing this food for people throughout the country.
