This vibrant and culturally rich town is located in the heart of south Louisiana and was built as a midway point on the railway between Lake Charles and Lafayette. The town was founded in 1888 by A.D. McFarlain, who was the first recorded settler and store owner and the first postman and rice grower of Jennings. This quickly became a thriving community, thanks to its location on the Southern Pacific Railroad, and Jennings McComb, the contractor to which the town owes its name. The town's first oil well was drilled in 1901, and oil production soon became the area's primary industry. Jennings remained a small town for many years, but oil production continued to thrive at the beginning of the 20th century, but when the production declined later, the town went back to its agricultural roots. Now, Jennings has a population of 9,800 and is known for its strong sense of community, delicious Cajun cuisine, and live music and arts scene. There is always something to do in this town, from the popular Jennings Mardi Gras festival to the weekly farmers' market. The town square is the heart of the town, and it's a great place to explore, grab a bite to eat, or take a stroll.
Even though Jennings is a small town, it has a lot of southern charm, and there are plenty of things to do in this historic town, including:

4. Catch a show at the Strand Theatre, previously a movie theatre from the 1930s, but currently it hosts a variety of events throughout the year, such as the monthly live country music show.
