The Abilene center is about 1 mile west of Grace Museum and 1 mile west of Downtown Abilene.
Abilene is fortunate enough to have low levels of rainfall throughout the year, so no matter what time you choose to visit, it's unlikely that you'll need to bring your poncho or your rain boots. However, bear in mind that Texas summers are hot — unbearably hot for some people. The average high temperature in July is close to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The average high in August is close to 94 degrees.
To avoid the worst of the heat, head to Abilene in the winter. In December and January, the highs are usually in the 50s. Rainfall is also low during the winter months. If you're looking for a nice in-between time, plan your trip for spring or fall, when temperatures are often in the 70s.
When are hotels at their cheapest in Abilene? Abilene isn't exactly a hotspot tourist destination, so you're unlikely to have to worry about crowds. Still, you may be able to find the cheapest rates if you avoid visiting on weekends. Also be sure to check the city's events calendar before you book. Events may draw people to the city and result in higher hotel prices.
Who doesn't love discounts? Fortunately, there are some hotels in Abilene that offer discounts for AAA members, AARP members, and those who work in the military or for the government.
One of Abilene's discount stars is Days Inn. This simple but appealing property offers multiple types of discounts as well as discounted group rates. The hotel has a high rating for groups and meetings.
AAA members may also want to look at Hampton Inn & Suites Abilene North. This 2.5-star property has special rates for AAA members. However, it does not offer military or senior discounts. Hampton Inn Abilene similarly offers a AAA discount. The Hilton Garden Inn Abilene also offers AAA discounts.
Are you bringing a group with you for your time in Abilene? Most hotels there offer significant discounts to large groups. Sometimes, these group rates can equate to more than a 30 percent discount per room. Discounts as high as 30 percent are rare, however. A good group discount is usually between 5 percent and 10 percent. The average group discount at the Best Western Abilene Inn is just short of 8 percent. The group rate you get will depend on the size of your group and the timing of your booking.

Friendly people and great restaurant service at both places that we went too which are was Buffalo Wild Wings and Red Robin
Enjoyed the mall and movie theater so that was convenient. However, there a not many sidewalks or crossing areas where we visited so it made it a bit dodgey to get across the street. Obviously we are all adults and no harm came to us, but I think overall it was a little annoying.
The shopping, museums, and restaurants that we all visited were great. Recommend The Grace Museum and Belle's Chicken Dinner House.
All of the stores were lined up on one strip.
Everything was within a short drive. Hotels were close to McMurray University and it was easy to navigate around city. It is convenient to find so many good places to choose from to eat.
