Property Description
Located in downtown Portland's West End on the edge of the Pearl District are the Crystal Hotel and Ballroom blocks – an area that could be renamed “rock 'n' roll row.” The Crystal Hotel, a 1911 flatiron, has 51 guestrooms, each with décor inspired by a song or performance from the neighboring Crystal Ballroom's glorious past.
Tucked between Pride Plaza and the Pearl District, Hal's Café offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our chefs craft seasonal dishes with fresh Northwest ingredients, and bar specialists craft shrubs and sodas in house. They have also curated an extensive spirit, wine and craft cocktail list.
Find respite in the midst of bustling downtown in the subterranean saltwater soaking pool. Overnight hotel guests can unwind after a day exploring before heading to the Crystal Ballroom for a concert.
Al's Den is an intimate music venue named for Al Winter, Portland's gambling overlord who, in the 1940s, managed his vast empire that spanned the Pacific Northwest and into Las Vegas from this very location. Today in Al's Den, we host live music, comedy nights and artist residencies. Venture a few steps into Ringlers Annex, a cool bar offering creatively crafted island-inspired beverages.

Namesake of good-times, law-dodging, dance hall owner Montrose Ringler, this pub relived a slice of history a hundred years after first opening: Montrose Ringler's Crystal Ballroom was shut down by the well-meaning, but stern, Lola Baldwin in the 1920s, only to reemerge as a different kind of dance hall, then later as a venue spotlighting the likes of James Brown, Marvin Gaye, the Grateful Dead and Buffalo Springfield. In 2020-21 we had a shutdown of a different sort, but Ringlers Pub's phoenix-like return didn't feel so different.
This place of pinball, pool games, great meals, handcrafted beverages and spirited conversations sprang back, just as it did post-Lola. Anchored by a spectacular mosaic-tiled bar, Ringlers, located at street level below the Crystal Ballroom, was opened by the McMenamins brothers in 1997 after years as an auto dealership, then glass company. Ringlers is known for its extensive whiskey selection: more than 160 from around the world, and growing. It's a great downtown spot to stop for a whiskey, ale or cocktail.

Set below street level at the Crystal Hotel, our oasis ebbs and flows in the midst of the bustling city. Overnight guests can unwind after a long day of shopping or meetings or before heading to the Crystal for a concert. The pool is for overnight guests only; those 18 and older need a photo ID. Minors are permitted with an adult before 8pm. We ask that all guests remain aware of their surroundings and are mindful of others when taking photos and video. Our soaking pool is a place for relaxation. Jumping is not allowed, and excessive noise, filming and photography are strongly discouraged and may result in removal from soaking pool area. |
