The Auburn Hills center point is approximately 1 mile northwest of Oakland University and 1 mile northeast of POH Medical Center.
To figure out the best time to visit Auburn Hills, you need to take Detroit's tourism into account. Given their proximity to one another, the two cities experience very similar weather patterns. The prices and availability of hotel rooms in Auburn Hills will also reflect the highs and lows of Detroit. When Detroit is packed, you can expect hotels in Auburn Hills to hike their rates and book up more quickly than usual.
As is the case with many U.S. Cities, Detroit's peak tourism season runs from June through September. July and August are particularly hot, so if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors, you might consider postponing your trip until fall. Hotels will be busier during these months as well. Book your rooms well in advance and expect to pay premium prices.
Fall and spring boast the best weather, with mild temperatures ranging from 40 to 55 degrees. Meanwhile, winter brings the best hotel prices, but at a cost. Snowstorms and heavy rainfall ensure that this season is unpopular for good reason. Still, if you don't mind the risk, a winter visit will definitely save you money.
Discounts at hotels in the Auburn Hills area aren't hard to come by. Most of the chain hotels offer special or discounted rates for AAA/CAA members, AARP members, seniors, and military or government employees. You can also save money by joining a hotel's rewards program, such as Hilton HHonors. These programs allow you to earn points through hotel stays and other offers, then redeem them towards rewards such as weekend getaways or shopping sprees. Exact details vary by program. Keep in mind, too, that more hotels participate in these programs than you might at first think. For instance, Hampton Inns are part of the Hilton chain.
You can also save money by booking online in advance or, on the flip side, taking advantage of last-minute deals. Some chains single out a few locations each week for discounted rates or offer vacation packages that let you bundle and save on services, transportation, extras, and upgrades. Finally, those traveling in a group or for a conference or event may be able to take advantage of a group discount for lower rates.
The best value options are found outside Auburn Hills, but there are several less than 15 miles away. Troy, for instance, is home to several hotels with excellent reviews and rates well below $150 per night. The Hilton Garden Inn offers a heated indoor pool, fitness center, room service, and a 24-hour business center. Guests also benefit from an on-site restaurant and lounge and 24-hour convenience mart. Rooms include 43-inch TVs, HBO programming, Keurig coffee makers, microwaves, and mini refrigerators. The Hampton Inn & Suites offers similar amenities, exchanging the on-site restaurant for complimentary breakfast.
You can find more than three Holiday Inn Express & Suites locations nearby; those in Rochester Heights, Farmington Hills, and Troy are all well within driving distance. Each includes a 24-hour business center, an indoor pool, and a fitness center. You will find a complimentary continental breakfast at the first, an on-site restaurant at the second, and snack bar/deli at the third. Rooms' amenities vary but often include flat-screen TVs, cable or satellite programming, desks, coffee makers, refrigerators, microwaves, and free Wi-Fi.
Whether you enjoy sports, outdoor recreation, or motor vehicles, Auburn Hills is a great place to pay homage to your hobbies and interests. Basketball fans, for example, will recognize Auburn as the home of the Detroit Pistons, and the Palace at Auburn Hills is worth the trip. If the Pistons aren't your favorite team, buy tickets to one of their annual matchups against whichever team is.
The Palace has always been one of the premier arenas in the world, and thanks to ongoing upgrades, it will continue to impress for years to come. The arena even includes its own restaurant, the Palace Grille, which opens two hours before each game or event begins and closes one hour after it ends. Concession stands include Maplewood Barbecue, The Linkery, Eastside Taco, and more.
As we mentioned before, Auburn Hills is also the site of Chrysler's world headquarters. Car enthusiasts may enjoy a visit to the Walter P. Chrysler Museum, whose exhibits include more than 65 antique, custom, and concept vehicles. Parents of aspiring builders can take their kids to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center for a day of fun. Even adult fans of the famous building blocks will appreciate the LEGO factory tour, which explains how the blocks get their shape and color.
As impressive as those attractions are, they're just the beginning. If you love the outdoors, Auburn Hills has more than half a dozen parks for you to explore. The Auburn Hills Skate Park is open from 8 a.m. to dusk for skateboarding, in-line skating, and BMX bikes. Golfers can play through the Fieldstone Golf Club, consistently ranked among the top three out of more than 170 local courses. No matter what your interests, you're sure to find something right up your alley in Auburn Hills.

Traffic did flow. Easy to find restaurants, shopping and our way. The pot holes were terrible! Need repair immediately! It looks like the city has really struggled with the last recession, as many areas were closed down. I would definitely come back! Thanks.
We were in Rochester for our daughters graduation from Oakland University. We love the availability of resturants, shopping and hotels in the area and would recommend other people visit the area.
