Bettendorf is the largest of the Quad Cities, which is comprised of Davenport, Moline, Bettendorf, and Rock Island. Rock Island and Moline sit on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River while Davenport and Bettendorf sit on the Iowa side of the river. The Quad Cities was first efficiently connected by a railway bridge in the mid-1800s. Before this bridge, slow-moving ferries joined the four cities across the Mississippi River. Currently, several iconic bridges cross the Mississippi providing access across the state lines.
