This hotel is a great choice for any group that wants to feel as if they've stepped into the "Mad Men" world of the 1960s in a big city. This small, intimate property has old world style: Some of my favorite details included the rows of bookshelves and antique banker's desks that line the lobby, which lead up to a globe-lined brass bar. They also have a fantastic art collection, including everything from classic portraits and sculptures to interpretive caricatures. Their meeting room (which opens into the lobby) is a great spot to host an event. It is not very large, but is the perfect size and style for an off-mic speaker or a cocktail reception. For this reason, it is not uncommon for this hotel to have a schedule of interesting events taking place in this venue, which guests are almost always welcome to attend. Their conference room, which is set in a beautifully decorated library, is a great place to hold a meeting. Even their business center has antique typewriters above the modern computers. The rooms are very nice, and follow the same theme as the rest of the property, although not to the same extreme. They are mostly single bed rooms. In short, this is a prime hotel for a business meeting or a small social event. Their location near Union Square puts them right in the heart of the city, while maintaining an intimate atmosphere and decent prices. If you want a big, impressive hotel this is not the best choice... but if you want an intimate hotel with a lot of style, this is a great option.
