When to Visit Charleston, West Virginia
Charleston has a humid subtropical climate with four seasons each year. Summers get warm, with highs in the mid- to upper 80s. In the winter, highs are usually in the 20s or 30s, and the city averages six to 11 inches of snow each month. Spring can be unpredictable, but this season usually brings temperatures in the 50s and 60s along with late spring showers. If you want to plan your visit during the city's most pleasant season, fall is a good contender, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s and relatively dry skies.
You might also want to plan your trip around Charleston's numerous festivals and special events. In June, the entire city of Charleston turns into a work of art as public art installations, live performances, and culinary delights appear throughout town during the 10-day FestivALL. In October, the West Virginia Book Festival attracts bibliophiles from all over for readings, author events, and an impressive book sale.
