Green Sustainability
Radisson Blu Resort Phu Quoc has begun growing bamboo at a new farm on its beachfront grounds, becoming the first international hotel in Vietnam to harvest its own bamboo straws in a bid to protect the environment. As part of the resort’s “BLU GOES GREEN” campaign, the resort’s general manager Marko Janssen turns the first soil on the farm that joins a host of eco-friendly initiatives rolled out by the property, ranging from the introduction of a fleet of electric vehicles to a program that recycles used hotel soaps into fresh soap distributed to local communities.Radisson Blu and Bamboo Step have come together to create the first 5-star Resort Straw Farm in Asia, and possibly in the world. The plantation of a bamboo farm on the 514 room property will make the 5 star resort self-sufficient in drinking straws. The resort has used Bamboo Step green straws from the opening day, as part of their strategy to reduce consumption of single use plastic. The partnership is now going further, with the ambition of developing a new model for the hospitality industry.This project happens in the context of a very fast developing touristy destination, Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam.
