After a long day of nervous driving through often smokey hills and mountain areas, we pulled into the crowded parking lot of the hotel. Three large cars were temporarily parked ahead of us. There were people all over, some dragging multiple bags and leashed dogs. One had three big dogs (all well behaved). And there were MANY firefighters, other trucks carrying what looked like supplies. We later learned that many people were evacuated from the fires and all the firefighters/volunteers drove from far off places to set up and jockey with others who would switch with the fresher group readied. .we were super impressed, in awe once stepping into the lobby. The front desk was quickly, professionally multitasking between checking in, giving directions, to everyone. We let everyone go ahead of us. Our room was nice and clean, bed comfortable, quiet. We were going to take advantage of the early breakfast but when we got there and saw how crowded it was (lots of families) and that the hotel even opened the doors for business meetings to offer extra tables and chairs for the families (we were impressed once again) we opted to just grab something at a drive through, give them space. All the while, EVERY SINGLE employee we ran across, from the reservations desk to those moving food to the staff making sure everything was clean not just looked us in the eyes, engaged in conversation and smiled (not the fake smiles either!) And I watched as they kept these standards in place, really connecting to those under truly stressful circumstances. We are THANKFUL to witness their hospitality and stellar care.
