The Chester center is approximately 6 miles south of Us Army Reserve and 7 miles north of Petersburg Amtrak.
You can't go wrong with a visit to Chester during autumn or spring. You'll miss the searing heat of summer and the frigid cold of winter, and you'll appreciate the gorgeous scenery. In fall, greens and browns turn to golds, reds, and yellows, creating the perfect backdrop for your vacation photos. In spring, the flowers begin to bloom and the trees blossom with newly grown leaves.
Of course, summer serves as peak tourist season in Chester. The kids aren't in school, and families are out and about in the summer sun. You'll experience hotel rate hikes during this time of year, but you'll also get to take part in more festivals, outdoor concerts, and other community events.
Unless you love snow, ice, and charcoal-gray skies, consider steering clear of Chester during the winter. While you might score a fantastic deal on a hotel room or suite, you might never get to leave your room if one of the area's infamous ice storms blows through.
You don't always have to pay full price for hotels in Chester. For instance, the Hampton Inn Chester offers discounts for current AAA members. Just bring your membership identification with you to the hotel. You can also get AAA discounts at hotels in neighboring towns, such as the Econo Lodge in Colonial Heights and the Sleep Inn Chesterfield in Richmond. Some of the chain hotels, such as the Residence Inn, will also give discounts for senior citizens and military veterans.
When you're shopping for value, you can't go wrong with the Holiday Inn Express Chester. The rooms are decorated in a minimalist style that gives the illusion of more space. You'll get a flat-screen television with cable and HBO, an in-room microwave and refrigerator, and free wireless internet access throughout the hotel. Rest easy on triple-sheeted beds featuring pillowtop mattresses. Other amenities include a health and fitness center, a business center, a casino, and guest laundry facilities. There's also an on-site ATM so you don't have to worry about finding a local bank branch.
Alternatively, stay at the high-value Hampton Inn Chester, which combines luxury with affordability in unique ways. It's just 30 minutes from the Richmond airport, and it offers 65 guest rooms and suites. It features a pool and fitness room as well as a coin laundry facility and serves a complimentary breakfast each morning. The on-site newsstand lets you keep up with the latest headlines, so don't worry about missing out on local and national news. Plus, you can store your valuables in the safe deposit box, which you can request at the reception desk. If you're traveling with kids, ask for a complimentary crib or playpen so you can travel a little lighter.
Food is always a good reason to visit a particular part of the United States, and Chester offers its fair share of convenient casual dining establishments. You don't have to worry about packing fancy clothes or perusing pricey menus. Instead, enjoy a quiet meal with your traveling companions.
Start with Riptides Seafood Restaurant. Although the dinner menu can get a little expensive, the lunch specials offer opportunities to save while you enjoy sumptuous seafood platters. Try the lobster if you feel like splurging a little, or stick with a crowd-pleasing favorite like the shrimp scampi or Chesapeake crab dip. There's also an excellent selection of wine and beer if you feel like an adult beverage.
Next, try Don Papa Grande's Mexican Restaurant. This laid-back, casual venue serves some of the best chips and queso you'll find on the East Coast. This restaurant also offers a robust menu featuring full-flavor dishes. Indulge in the enchiladas, split a plate of nachos with the table, or try the tacos. Don't forget to order a frozen margarita with plenty of salt.
