Recycling:
On recycling - Karongwe Portfolio has a recycle project in all of the lodges - separating plastics, glass and biodegradable objects from each other and sending it to the necessary recycling plants.
Plastic:
Karongwe Portfolio is also in the process of doing away with all plastic water bottles and promote the use of glass / steel flasks instead.
In addition, all plastic straws have been removed from January 2020 and we make a concerted effort to reduce all plastics.

As the world cheetah meta - population is in decline Karongwe works with EWT (Endangered Wildlife Trust ) in donating to this worthwhile Trust to the protection of cheetah.

Tree planting:
Karongwe Portfolio has also embarked on a huge Spekboom challenge - (i.e. planting the wonderful tree that absorbs a huge amount of carbon dioxide) engaging with guests to join us in the local community to plant trees.
This is on our activity list and entails the planting of a tree in the local village - guests are given a complimentary T shirt “I planted a tree in Africa at Karongwe”
Vegetable project:
Our little paws children program also includes a children’s activity that involves the planting of vegetables - the garden is cared for by the lodge and the vegetables are taken to the local community drop in centre for vulnerable children.
The idea behind this is “one child feeds another “, and we believe creates awareness across cultures of caring and also growing organic natural foods.
Drop in Centre for Vulnerable Children:
Karongwe Portfolio is responsible for two Drop in centres in the two neighbouring villages.
This involves the renovation of the centre, providing of furniture desks and amenities to the children.
